Underwire Bras | Lift, Shape & Support | MissFine
If you have ever written off underwire bras because they dug in, poked, or left red marks by the end of the day — the wire was not the problem. The size was. An underwire that sits on breast tissue instead of around it will always hurt. When the wire follows the natural curve of your breast and the band is firm enough to hold it in position, underwire becomes the most effective support structure in bra design. It lifts, defines, and distributes weight across the band instead of loading your shoulders.
MissFine carries underwire bras across every style — from everyday T-shirt bras to lace balconettes and full-cup designs — in sizes 32A to 48F. For women who need real lift, particularly in larger cup sizes, underwire remains the gold standard for a reason.
Not sure of your size? Use our bra size calculator to check your measurements — it takes two minutes and it is the single best thing you can do to make underwire comfortable. Still weighing up your options? Read our guide on whether non-wired bras give enough support.
Frequently Asked Questions About Underwire Bras
Are underwire bras bad for you?
No. There is no medical evidence that underwire bras cause breast cancer, cysts, or any other health problem. The discomfort some women experience is almost always a size issue — the wire is sitting on breast tissue instead of enclosing it. When the cup size and band are correct, underwire should feel supportive, not painful. If yours pokes, digs, or leaves marks, you need a different size, not a different bra type.
How should an underwire bra fit?
The wire should fully enclose your breast without sitting on any breast tissue. The centre gore — the piece between the cups — should lie flat against your sternum. The wire should follow the natural crease where your breast meets your ribcage. If the wire rides up onto your breast, your cup is too small. If it gaps at the bottom, your cup is too large.
Can I sleep in an underwire bra?
It is not recommended. Underwire is engineered for upright support, not lying down. For overnight wear, a soft non-wired bralette or sleep bra is more comfortable and provides enough support when horizontal. See our non-wired bra collection for options that work while you rest.
